Dragon has default keyboard shortcuts (hotkeys) to control the microphone.
Here's how to change the defaults to other keys, if the default keys don't suit. Go to Dragon Bar / Tool / Options / Hotkeys You can assign keys for toggling the mic between on and off, and between sleep and on. To assign a key for toggling the mic between sleep and on, click on 'Microphone sleep /on' Click Edit Physically press the key you wish to use as the hotkey (make sure it isn't a key you need for another purpose. The Pause key is a good one because you won't need it for anything else) Click OK Click Apply Click OK Follow the same process to assign a key for Microphone on/off Click here for Dragon Cheat sheets and User Guides
Nuance have not released training documentation for Dragon Professional Individual 14. Use the guides for Dragon 13 — use of version 14 is the same as 13. Dragon 13 Cheat Sheet Dragon 13 Workbook (note this is a large document - 125 pages) There are different ways to hide and unhide rows and columns in Excel....
First you need to select the columns/rows...... Say "Select row 10" or"Select Row 10 to row 14"; "Select column C" or "select column C to column G" To select the whole worksheet say "Select all" or "Press Control a". If hiding 1 row or column only, you don't actually need to select, as long as the cursor is somewhere in the row/column. Then say "Hide this column", or "Hide this row". Another option is to use keyboard shortcuts:
To deploy these keyboard shortcuts by voice say:
Note that you will need to make a change in control panel to enable the CTRL+Shift+0 shortcut to work. Click here for instructions. Another option is to move the mouse pointer by hand over the top of the row or column, say "Mouse right click", then "Hide". Occasionally you might want Dragon to write a word or phrase that happens to be a command name, as text. For example you might want Dragon to write the word 'copy' or 'select' or 'system'.
Generally if you say the word/s in a stream of text, Dragon will type what you say as text. This is because recognition of commands requires you to pause before and after. So if you don't pause, Dragon should interpret what you say as text rather than a command. Another way to force recognition of what you say as text rather than a command is to say e.g. "Cap copy" - Dragon will write 'Copy'. Alternativley you could say "no caps copy" and Dragon will write 'copy' in lower case. By nominating the caps, Dragon knows you want text and not a command. Have you noticed that the cursor sometimes jumps around in a multipage document? If you scroll by mouse, using the scroll wheel on your mouse or the scrollbar on the screen, the insertion point stays where it was. If the microphone is on (or asleep) and Dragon hears any sound, Word will take you back to where the insertion point is, thinking that you want to insert text.
The workaround is to either:
If you are wondering how to dictate punctuation, say "Edit vocabulary" and type the punctuation or symbol in the Search for field. The spoken form on the right indicates what you need to say.
Did you know that you can use a different spoken form in the vocabulary?
For example, you could use the spoken form "Insert mobile number" to produce your mobile number. This will be quicker and easier for Dragon to recognise, compared to dictating the number. Say "Edit vocabulary" and type in the written form. Click Add, then type the spoken form in the Spoken form field. Click Add. You might have noticed that Dragon sometimes types numbers as words rather than numerals, particularly for numbers less than ten. To improve recognition of dates, say "Edit vocabulary" and type in a month eg December / Properties Select 'as numerals' from the 'Format preceding numbers' drop down list / OK.
You will need to do this for each month. After purchasing your Dragon software, it's a good idea to register it on the Nuance website.
Registration provides access to technical support from the Nuance Helpdesk for 6 months. It also creates a record of your serial number which will be useful if you lose your installation disc. Click here to set up a Nuance account and register your software. |
